Intertidal Life as Experienced through a Powerful Lens

چکیده
admirable contribution to the study of infectious diseases and parasitology. It amply illustrates that focusing on simple host– parasite species pairs is often insufficient for understanding the emergence and prevalence of diseases, in both human and wildlife populations. Taking a community perspective not only broadens our knowledge but it also provides for a much sounder predictive theory of disease dynamics. It is an exciting time for people working in this area because so much work remains to be done. This superb volume is required reading for anyone interested in enjoying and contributing to this rapidly growing field of research.

Thermal tolerance of Crepidula fornicata (Gastropoda) life history stages from intertidal and subtidal subpopulations
The ability to withstand high summer temperatures is an extremely important determinant of species distributions in the intertidal zone; most marine organisms cannot live intertidally because of the harsh conditions experienced during aerial emersion. The members of some species, though, live both intertidally and subtidally, and their physiological tolerance to stressors may differ depending o...
متن کاملClimate Change and Intertidal Wetlands
Intertidal wetlands are recognised for the provision of a range of valued ecosystem services. The two major categories of intertidal wetlands discussed in this contribution are saltmarshes and mangrove forests. Intertidal wetlands are under threat from a range of anthropogenic causes, some site-specific, others acting globally. Globally acting factors include climate change and its driving caus...

Low richness of hermit crabs community (Crustacea: Decapoda: Paguroidea) and high dominance of Clibanarius signatus in the intertidal zones of Larak Island, Persian Gulf, Iran
Abstract Hermit crabs community in the intertidal zones of Larak Island were investigated through a seasonal sampling at five stations using random quadrate sampling method. Overall, seven species were identified and Clibanarius signatus was the dominant species, which showed high dominance over other species. Using Bray-Curtis cluster analysis for comparing seasonal abundance showed that exce...
متن کاملGlobal change scenarios trigger carry-over effects across life stages and generations of the intertidal limpet, Siphonaria australis
For organisms with complex life histories, carry-over effects (COEs) can manifest between life stages, when conditions experienced by one stage influence the next, as well as trans-generationally, when the parental environment affects offspring. Here we used multiple global change-associated stressors to examine both forms of COE simultaneously in an intertidal limpet with mixed development (i....
